Another deterrent I have as well as the light switch timer and the fake tv lighting is a dog barking system activated through a pir connected to an old type tape recorder and amplifier and a couple of decent speakers. I have seen undesirables jump a couple of feet in the air before fleeing when trespassing in the communal alleyway at the rear of my home. It is also efficient at giving us notice that someone is in the vicinity.

This is some really good information about caring for an older part. My grandmother’s dog is super old and my grandmother is going to get super upset when the dog passes away. She always leaves a light on for her dog and the radio.
So, it does seem like a smart idea

“timer which works with Energy saving bulbs, LED’s or CFL”? Will this timer also work with tungsten bulbs?
Have replaced half of my Christmas lights outdoors with LED, the other half still tungsten. I have always run them off one timer.

The light switch timer is a mechanical device that physically rolls over a switch for you, turning it on and off. As long as the lights are being powered through the mains electricity on a switch plate the light switch timer will be compatible. This works with all bulbs.

Of course I do! A small light and there are dark corners where she can sleep comfortably if she wants! It never occurred to me not to! However using the light switch timer to programme when lights turn on and off is a great way for me to save electricity. Rather than keep my lights on all day I can now have the lights turn on when it gets dark.

It only works if you have large flat switch toggles. If you have thinner lever types the rollers won’t work. So you’d need to change your faceplates, which means turnung off the mains and or geting an electrician.

Is there an option to randomly turn lights on (and off a few minutes later) during the times when the lights are programmed to be off?

    Reply
    • mydome on

      Hi Graham,

The light switch timers random operation only works between the hours of 1am-5am for a 3 minute period once a night. Individual programmes must be run for all other times. With 9 programmable options you can ensure that lights appear to be coming on randomly. We do however advise that whilst away your lighting timetable should remain relatively consistent to how it would be if you was at home. This helps ensure any burglars canvasing a neighbourhood don’t see a change in pattern when your away.

    Sir,
All (95%) of my light bulbs are now LED. But they have created a nuisance for me in terms of timing them. My driveway lights are two LED flood lights. My timer which worked with filament type flood lights, worked perfectly. But now, the same timer changes the timing cycle and progressively makes it shorter and starts earlier and earlier. By connecting two flood lights in parallel, I do not get flickering or dim light problems, but it does not really help in terms of timing cycle. I have successfully tried to use one LED and one filament flood light, but that is going to be impossible when all filament lights are going to disappear; and I don’t like it.
Any thing else I can do so make my driveway and other timers work the way I want them to? Do let me know.
    Thank you.

unfortunately not the light switch timer can not be programmed for individual lights. you can however select which lights are on the timer by adding or removing the control wheels at the rear.

      Hi Stacey,

Just above the ‘day’ button you should see a pin hole. Please use a pin / paper clip to press this button. You should find the clock goes back to 12:00am and the day Monday.

Please note that you will have to enter the current day and time again before adding in your new programmes.

Alternatively if it is just the programmes you would like to change please continue to press the day button on the programme screen. Once it has scrolled through all day variations you should find the clock resets.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to help.

Your home is nothing less than a theater stage and it should have everything to make it look apart. Be it the right paint colors or the right furniture and the home appliances, each and every thing should be exactly the way you should want it to look. But the only thing which can really tie the set together is the lights. The right lighting can ensure to set the proper mood for every room which you would want to convey to your guests and properly set up lights can get in sync with the activities occurring there. Ambient lighting is considered the most common type of indoor lighting which can be placed on ceilings for lighting up rooms with broader glow. Floor lamps and recessed lights are also used to set up this effect. Ambient lighting gives uniform illumination throughout the spaces.

    Hi
I have purchased another light switch timer from Screwfix, I have just had my house rewired so have identical switches upstairs and note in one room although with the spacers provided the switch can be activated with a ‘click’. But when turing it off it turns off put the switch remain in half ‘mode’ (does not fully go back to off position.
Please advise -do I need more spacers? I do not have a flat plate 1 switch light , it is from BG Nexus range. but the other light works perfectly.

    Hi Doug,

The light switch timer is battery operated device and therefore works independently to the mains power supply. If you experience a power cut the light switch timer will remain active and so will all your timetabled programmes. Your programmes will only be erased if the batteries are removed for more than one minute or if you decide to change them yourself.

I hope this helps but if you have any other questions please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to help.

The light switch timer can operate any lights that are controlled using a switch plate. This includes lights that are outside and inside.

The light switch timer sits on top of your existing switch plate and therefore controls all the switches on that particular plate i.e. if its a 1,2 or 3 gang switch you can choose if not all of them which ones you wish to control. To control more than one rooms lights you will require additional light switch timers; one for each switch plate you wish to programme.

    Hi Maggie,

Clear plastic n shaped inserts are designed for use on slightly slimmer switch plates and used to increase the depth of them. The light switch timer wheels should roll over the entire face of your switch and the n shaped inserts help to do this when the wheel clips your switch instead.

The light switch timer random feature works in conjunction with your programmed timetable. If one of the random programmes conflicts with an existing programme then that particular programme takes precedent in that instance only.

    Hi,

Your switch plate appears to have been installed upside down.

When turning the lights on the switch should be pressed ‘down’.
When turning lights off the switch should be pressed ‘up’.

This can be easily resolved. You will need to turn your switch plate 180 degrees. You wont have to do any wiring. Upon doing so your light switch timer will work as per normal.

    Hi Rose,

The light switch timer needs to be tightened to the switch plate and the wall. Screw less switch plates tend to be loose and for this reason we would not recommend using the light switch timer on this style switch plate.

    Dear Bryn,

The light switch timer can not be used to control lights independently. In this instance you would need to remove the unit from the cradle and use the switch manually when you are home, returning the unit to the cradle when you leave the house and want to use the timer.

This would of course entirely depend on how you intend to use the product and appreciate it may not be practical for situations where you want to use the timer for security lighting when you are home.

You should find that the clock turns back to 12:00 am again.

    Hi Steve,

The light switch timer is a retro fit timer that sits on top of your existing light switch. It uses a simple 7 day programme that you can choose to activate lights. Upon being activated it physically rolls over your switch turning lights on or off. To put it simply the light switch timer mimics the same action your finger would do when turning the lights on and off. The only difference being your presence will not be required!

You can have individual days programmed or the entire week. The timetable works on a 7 day week. This remains your active timetable until you decide to change it i.e. programmes will run continuously beyond the first week.

Battery life is expected to last between 12-18 months so you shouldn’t find your changing those often. A low battery indicator becomes visible when power is low so you are aware its time to change them.

I hope this all helps but should you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to help.

    Hi Billy,

Unfortunately the light switch timer is not compatible with a 4 gang switch. The light switch timer uses a cradle to house the timer unit. This cradle fits on top of all standard UK switches. 4 gang switches are bigger and more rectangular in shape so the cradle does not fit over them.

When battery levels are low a low battery indicator appears on your screen in the bottom left hand corner. The light switch timer has a battery life between 18 – 24 months so you shouldn’t find your self replacing them often.

We recommend looking at the battery power status prior to going on holiday. If you find that the low power indicator is present on the screen then we advise changing the batteries before you leave. If the low power indicator is not visible then batteries won’t need to be replaced.
